Instagram's built-in Save feature keeps Reels inside the Instagram app only. To get a Reel into your actual Camera Roll so you can share it, edit it, or keep it permanently — you need to download it as an MP4 file. Here is the complete iPhone guide.
After tapping Save Video, the Reel appears in your Photos app in several places. The Recents album shows it as the newest photo or video. The Videos album lists all video files sorted by date and the Reel will be at the top. If you have iCloud Photos enabled, the Reel uploads to your iCloud library and becomes accessible on your iPad, Mac, and any other Apple device signed into the same Apple ID.
On iOS 17 and iOS 18, Safari's download manager is accessible by tapping the download arrow button that appears in the address bar area when a download is active or recently completed. This button glows with a progress indicator while downloading. After completion, tapping it shows a list of all recent downloads. You can save multiple files from this list in sequence without needing to navigate away between each one. Tap each file, tap the Share icon, tap Save Video, then go back to the downloads list for the next file.
If your downloaded files are going to iCloud Drive instead of directly to your device, go to iPhone Settings, scroll down to Safari, and tap Downloads. Change the setting from iCloud Drive to On My iPhone. This stores files locally on the device without using iCloud storage and makes them accessible even when offline. After changing this setting, new downloads go directly to your iPhone's internal storage rather than to the cloud.
Once a Reel is in your Camera Roll, it is a standard MP4 video file that you can share via iMessage without any app dependency — the recipient can watch it directly in the Messages app without needing Instagram. You can AirDrop it to nearby Apple devices instantly. You can upload it to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, or any other video platform since it is already in the correct 9:16 vertical format. You can add it to iMovie or use it in any video editing app since it is a standard video file your device owns locally.
To save multiple Reels to your Camera Roll, repeat the process for each one or use dltkk.to batch mode to download up to 10 at once. In batch mode, all files download sequentially to Safari Downloads. Open the downloads panel when all are complete and save each one to Photos using the same tap-share-Save Video process. The batch approach is faster than running individual downloads between each Reel.
